Life cycle of steel and plastic in terms of sustainability

Plastic

With proper maintenance and without excessive loading, plastic containers can last from 5 to 10 years on average. Their lifespan can be affected by many factors, e.g. if they are exposed to extreme temperatures, direct sunlight or frequent overloading.

Plastic will gradually become brittle and prone to damage, and the life of plastic containers can be significantly shortened.

Plastics can be recycled multiple times, but after each recycling cycle, their quality and properties can gradually deteriorate.

Steel

Steel containers stand out for their longevity, which exceeds plastic alternatives several times. Thanks to their robust construction and resistance to external influences, they are a long-term investment in sustainability and efficiency. Their service life is significantly longer, which contributes to reducing the need for frequent replacement and thus to waste reduction.

In addition, steel, as a material, can be recycled at the end of the container's life, meaning that its parts can be reused to make new products. This makes steel containers a more environmentally responsible choice compared to plastic variants, which are more difficult to recycle and often end up as waste in landfills.
